Opening Line: “Sweat beaded along Darcy Greer’s brow as she smoothed her shaking hands over the full skirt of her wedding gown, her fingertips catching on the subtle pattern embroidered into the silk.”
Overall: This book is about a librarian (Yea!) named Darcy who almost just got married. She has great friends, lots of tattoos and a job she loves at the library. Reed McMahon is a workaholic PR whiz known as the “image fixer”. Except he’s now having trouble with his own image because of a new, hot, New York dating app called, Bad Bachelors. He is currently rated as the #1 man NOT to date in New York! The app is warning all the women of New York that he’s a womanizing, serial dater who won’t commit and is available for nothing more than great sex. Reed and Darcy meet eachother because he is being forced to get some good press by putting on a Pro Bono fundraiser for the struggling library. They are total opposites that are forced to work together for the fundraiser. Their physical chemistry and witty banter is electric and sizzles right from the start. Their attraction eventually leads to some fun. hot sex. However, Darcy and Reed are both effected by the Bad Bachelors app and what it is doing to constantly publicize Reed’s bad-boy reputation. They are also both navigating through personal family issues, while trying to work together to plan the fundraiser. They are trying to figure out where their lives are going separately and if they are going to try and include eachother, and maybe overcome the problems from the Bad Bachelor app together.
Ovations: This is an entertaining, snappy, sexy rom-com! The plot is very well written and such an original and fun idea. The author writes with such descriptive detail that you really get immersed in the plot, the people and the locations. The opening scene with Darcy and her friends is both hilarious and original. All of the characters, even the secondary ones, are fully fleshed-out and developed and you become invested in all their lives. You really fall in love with Reed and Darcy and want the best for both of them. Their dialogue crackles with humor, heat and emotion. This is a fantastic opposites-attract love story filled with fun, romance, and heart.
Oh Well: The only issue I had with this book at all is that obviously the Bad Bachelor app is totally sexist. There is no way there could be an app created to rate single women like that! But, if you just accept that it is a fun, techie-twist that updates the romance storyline and it’s not real….then I was ok with it.
Opinion: If you loved Sex And The City, then I think you will love this book. It has that same kind of dating in New York vibe to it. I am a sucker for bad boys and good banter! This book is the first in a series of three, that I will definitely be reading all three of. (Bad Bachelor, Bad Reputation, & Bad Influence)(Click on my link to read the reviews of those other books in this series.) I am always interested in reading more steamy, smart, sexy books about bad boys. Rating: 9 out of 10
