Opening Line: “There’s just something about white lace.”
Overall: Peyton is the owner of a lingerie shop in New York. One of her friends is publishing a sexy romance novel and wants to get press for the book. So, she asks Peyton if she would be willing to try out some of the usual romance book cliches, (like ripping a man’s shirt off, or seductively undressing as you go upstairs to the bedroom), and try them in real life to see if they are as sexy as the steamy novels make you believe. Peyton loves the idea because she wants to start up her old blog, The Lingerie Devotee, to drum up some new sales for her lingerie shop. She enlists her best guy friend, Tristan, to be her partner in the Sexy Scenes Research Project. She wants to keep it “PG” and she trust her best friend. They once shared an amazing kiss many years ago, but nothing has happened romantically ever since then because the timing has always been off, so they have remained just friends. Tristan obviously jumps at the chance of testing the sexy scenes with her! I mean, what could go wrong when trying sexual related experiments on a friends-only basis with his hot bestie who he has had a crush on for years but has been afraid to say anything?!?
Ovations: I love the alluring plot idea for this book! How fun would it be to do this in real-life with your partner?! What a great idea to try out all the supposedly hot & sexy scenes from books and movies and find out for yourselves if they can be a reality or are just fantasy! Also, I really liked the friendship between Peyton and Tristan. They are very close because they have known eachother for such a long time. It is obvious they really care about eachother. The book seems to be a friends-to-lovers story, but really they are both in love with eachother already, they just have not let themselves realize it yet. They are afraid admitting it will ruin their wonderful, longtime friendship.
Oh Well: Tristan and Peyton are two smart, successful adults. If they were really that close and knew eachother that well, they probably really would have talked about their true feelings to eachother after one of their sex-experiments-gone-too-far. At those points, they were feeling close and vulnerable together and maybe would have admitted their feelings. But, I do understand that fear is a strong deterrent, and I guess it totally overrode the emotions they were feeling.
Opinion: I will admit that the title of this book caught my eye. But, seeing the cover with the half-naked, ripped guy, almost made me not buy it. I assumed it would be another trashy type of romance novel. (See both photos above.) But when I turned the book over to read what it was exactly about, the book description sounded so unique and entertaining, it got me interested. Then when I saw the cute cartoon drawing of Peyton and Tristan, I realized that the title and front cover of this book are really from the romance book her friend is publishing in the plot of this book! So, I decided to buy it and I am so glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised by this little flirty, sexy, fun, sweet, and romantic book. Rating: 8 out of 10
